Sea Kayaking around St Kilda
Sea Kayak Australia, St Kilda, VIC

Sea Kayaking is fast gaining popularity around the world, and here's your chance to enjoy a gentle sampler of what it's all about. This half day sea journey will take you around the bustling, cosmopolitan Melbourne coastal town of St Kilda.

Our single and double sea kayaks provide a special vantage to take in the many sights of this port city, and you'll glide close to the yachts and ferries while taking in views of the cityscape, and perhaps even catch sight of penguins along the breakwater.

This is a fantastic adventure of salt spray, rolling waters, fresh air, good companions and new skills.

What we provide
A safe trip with qualified and experienced guides. You'll enjoy fantastic scenery, wildlife (sea eagles, dolphins, seals etc) with fresh air. You'll have good fun, and experience the relaxation and fitness benefits that sea kayaking offers.

We provide the use of double and single sea kayaks, paddle, life jacket, spray skirt, water proof jacket, pump, dry bags (for water proofing clothes and sleeping bag for multi-day trips).

We supply safety gear and emergency procedures organised by the guide (e.g. first aid kit, spare paddle, EPIRB, VHF radio, mobile phone and satellite phones where applicable).
What you need to bring / provide
Clothes to paddle in (spray jacket supplied), dry clothes to change into at the end of the day. Sea Kayak Australia will contact you and supply you with a "What to bring check list".
Requirements and restrictions
You require no previous paddling experience to go on this tour, but you must be able to swim at least 100 metres non-stop.

Reasonable fitness levels will increase your enjoyment, however the tour can be tailored to suite the group's general fitness level. Sea kayaking is about technique not muscle bulk. The sea kayak guide will factor in when rest stops and snack breaks should be taken to ensure energy levels are maintained.
Other information
On average we paddle 3 km on this day, or 2 hours. However, times and distances depend on the weather, tides, activities along the way, group fitness and skill.

SKA has single and double sea kayaks. The double sea kayaks are "Pittaraks" which are fast (6.6 m long) ocean going sea kayaks. These sea kayaks are also very stable with ample storage space and are equipped with a rudder for easy turning. The single kayaks are Q Kayak "Penguins". Participants would normally be placed in a double sea kayak for safety and group speed considerations rather than in single kayaks.
